Gerd Kanter shooting for world record 06 January 2012, www.european-athletics.org label_share

Jürgen Schult's discus world record of 74.08m celebrated its 25th anniversary last summer and, since it was established in 1986, the distance has defied the serious attention of legends of the event and Olympic champions such as his German compatriot Lar Riedel and Lithuania's Virgilijus Alekna.

However, Estonia's 2008 Olympic Games Discus gold medallist Gerd Kanter believes he still has the capabilities to surpass Schult's mark and even go over 75 metres.

In an interview with Estonian radio, which has been translated into English and can be read here (http://news.err.ee/sports/993e0435-b678-44d8-a3c3-d57cf512ecb7), the 32-year-old Kanter talks about his ambitions to add the record to his many honours, which also include the 2007 world title.
